Blackberry Dumplings

Hi Folks. I hope everyone has been well. I know it has been a couple weeks. We have just been so busy at Patti’s I just fell behind a bit.

But I’m back now, and ready to share a recipe with you today.

It is an old family recipe that my and her mom made all the time when I was little.

If you have never had blackberry dumplings you are in for a treat. And I am sure they will become a family favorite.

Blackberries were always a staple in our home growing up. Now obtaining these berries was not one of my most favorite tasks.

Mom would wake me and my brother before daylight and dress us for war against the briars and insects. She would pack us a lunch and go pick up my aunt and my grandma and we would spend the whole day on my uncles farm picking blackberries. There was always some excitement as we were in the pastures where an occasional cow would scare me and there were other critters I would have to watch out for. They weren’t my favorite days when I was little. But they are some of my favorite memories now.

But my reward for braving the pastures and critters was always a bowl of blackberry dumplings with a scoop of ice cream.

You take 3 cups of blackberries, ½ cup sugar and 2 cups water and mix in a large saucepan. While that is heating, in a bowl combine 1 ¼ cup of all purpose flour, ¼ cup sugar, 1 ½ tsp

baking powder, ½ tsp salt and ¾ cups milk. Bring sauce to a boil and then reduce heat to medium. Drop in your dumplings and cover pan. Let simmer for 15 minutes. Serve with vanilla ice cream and enjoy.

I hope you all love this as much as me and my family does.

Until Next Time,

Bev
